Manuel initially presented to the Africa Burn Relief Team in 2006.  Manuel never had access to proper burn medical management as a child.  As he did not receive skin grafting for his severe third degree burns of his face, neck, arms or chest, he was left to heal with ostracizing, and functionally limiting contractures of his neck and mouth.  Manuel lived as a beggar for 9 years before specialized care was presented to him two years ago.  Manuel returns to the Nkhoma Hospital regularly and receives his epileptic medications at the hospital pharmacy without fee, as part of the Africa Burn Relief Burn and Seizure Prevention Program.
